Chelsea High School senior Jake Campbell did most of his work on the mound in the Hornets’ first meeting with rival Shelby County in a Class 5A, Area 7 game earlier in the week.

Campbell, who pitched a complete game in the Hornets’ 7-3 win over the Wilcats, did his damage at the plate March 11 as he helped Chelsea complete a sweep of Shelby County following a 10-0 win in five innings.

Campbell finished 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and drove in three runs to help Chelsea (8-2) jump out to an early 2-0 mark in Class 5A, Area 7 standings.

The Hornets scored five runs in the first inning and two runs in the second inning before ending the game early with three runs in the fifth inning.

Carey Emmerke went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in two runs. Hunter Picklesimer finished 1-for-3 with a double and drove in a run.

Joey Mock went 1-for-2, drove in a run and scored two runs. Tres Gregg finished 1-for-2, drove in a run and scored two runs. Justen Moore went 1-for-3, drove in a run and scored two runs.

Eli Bashour and Alex Dean scored one run each.

Tripp Hobbs picked up the win on the mound after pitching a two-hitter with five strikeouts and two walks in a five-inning complete game.

Jacob Tidmore and Evan McNeal led Shelby County (1-5 overall, 0-2 in Class 5A, Area 7) with one hit each.

McNeal finished 1-for-2 with a double. Tidmore went 1-for-2 with a single. Josh Pennington and Jonathan Pennington, who each drew a walk, were the only other base runners for the Wildcats.

Bailey Benton started on the mound and took the loss after giving up seven runs, including six earned runs, on six hits with two strikeouts and four walks in two innings.

McNeal allowed three runs, including one earned run, on two hits with four strikeouts and a walk in 2 1/3 innings in relief. Tyler Sims recorded one out in the fifth inning before giving up the final hit in the game.
