The University of Montevallo baseball team produced nine runs off of 13 hits and used six different pitchers to defeat visiting University of Alabama in Huntsville 9-5 in a mid-week game March 10.

Junior Heath Peterson paced the Falcons (10-9) with two hits, a run scored, a home run and a team-high four RBIs.

Freshman Alec Stiver went 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles and three RBIs.

Junior Chris Ross, a Pelham graduate, also went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Senior Josh Dabbs blasted his team-leading fifth home run of the season as he went 1-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. Freshman Will Fulmer and junior Josh Headley each picked up two hits on the day as well.

The Falcons used six different pitchers in the game. Junior Wes Rich, a Pelham graduate, pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief and took home the win as his record improved to 1-1 on the season.

Rich struck out two while walking one and allowed just one hit. Sophomore Devon Davis got the start as he went 3 2/3 innings with a pair of strikeouts and three walks. Davis allowed just three hits and a pair of runs.

Montevallo jumped out to the early lead in the first inning as Peterson hit a two-out RBI single through the left side to score Headley, who had reached on a double. The Falcons tacked on two more runs in the second inning, as Stiver hit a two-run double to left-center field to score Fulmer and Ross. Fulmer had reached on a single while Ross picked up a double in the inning.

UAH answered with two runs in the third and eventually tied the game in the top of the sixth inning. In the bottom of the sixth, Dabbs hit a solo homerun to give the Falcons the lead. Stiver followed with an RBI double to left-center field, which scored Ross, who had reached on a single.

The Falcons tacked on three more runs in the seventh as Peterson hit a three-run homer to left field. Peterson drove in senior Scott Deason, a Spain Park graduate, who had reached on a hit by pitch and sophomore Austin Dubberly, a Pelham gradaute, who had reached on a single.

The Chargers scored two more runs in the eighth to cut the Falcons lead to just three runs. Deason provided one more insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning, as he hit an RBI single to left field to score Fulmer. Fulmer led off the inning with a single up the middle.

Deason then took to the mound in the top of the ninth inning and was able to end the game with a double play.
