Spain Park splits doubleheader

The Spain Park High School baseball team split a doubleheader with Northview and Sparkman in high school baseball action March 12.

The Jaguars (12-5) defeated Sparkman 8-4.

Alex Close led Spain Park at the plate as he finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Charlie McPherson went 2-for-4 and drove in a run. Paul Angel finished 1-for-2 and scored two runs. Carter White went 1-for-2 and scored two runs.

Chris Ellis picked up the win on the mound after giving up two earned runs on one hit with eight strikeouts and a walk in 4 2/3 innings. Hunter Hall allowed one earned run on four hits with a strikeout and a walk in 2 1/3 innings.

Spain Park fell to Northview 10-8 in the doubleheader.

Angel led the Jaguars at the plate as he finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Close finished 1-for-3 and drove in a run. McPherson finished 1-for-4 and drove in two runs. Nathan Brock went 1-for-3. Colton Freeman finished 1-for-4 and drove in a run.

Carter White, Mikey White and Sean Taylor scored one run each.

Close took the loss after giving up seven earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts and four walks in three innings.
