Briarwood Christian splits tournament doubleheader

The Briarwood Christian School baseball team split a doubleheader March 14 on the opening day of the Lake Martin Classic in Alex City.

The Lions (7-3) defeated Elmore County 9-0. Briarwood Christian racked up 12 hits in the victory.

Daniel Robert led Briarwood Christian at the plate as he finished 3-for-5 with a double. Robert drove in a run and scored a run.

Cole Pearson finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Logan Crook went 3-for-5 and scored two runs.

Will Brown started on the mound and earned the win after giving up just one hit with five strikeouts and a walk in four innings.

Robby Hale allowed just two hits with three strikeouts and a walk in three innings in relief.

The Lions fell to Smiths Station 13-2 in the tournament March 14.

Smiths Station held a slim 3-2 lead after the fourth inning before clinching the victory with 10 runs in the final three innings.

Robert led Briarwood Christian at the plate as he finished 1-for-3.

Micah Hooper started on the mound and took the loss after giving up four runs, including three earned runs, on five hits with two strikeouts and a walk in four innings.

Dan Thomas gave up one earned run on four hits with two strikeouts and a walk in three innings in relief.
