Thompson splits doubleheader in tournament

The Thompson High School baseball team split a doubleheader in the a tournament March 15 in Gulf Shores.

The Warrriors (14-7) defeated Raleigh High School (Miss.) before dropping a game against Rankin High School (Miss.) in the tournament.

Thompson opened the day with a 12-0 win over Raleigh.

Thompson scored two runs in the top of the first inning and exploded for 10 runs in the top of the fourth to coast to a five-inning victory.

Ian Murray blasted a solo home run to left field to lead off the fourth inning. Garrett Walters had a pinch-hit double that scored three runs.

Taylor Bria and Alex Henderson both drove in two runs.

Jake Hester (1-1) got the start on the mound and tossed a one-hit shutout in five innings. Hester finished with nine strikeouts and two walks.

The Warriors fell to Rankin 6-5 in its first loss in the tournament.

Tyler Gamble hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning, driving in Andrew Smith. Gamble finished 1-for-2 with a walk, a run scored and 2 RBIs.

Matt Haskins and Taylor Bria each drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Alex Henderson also drove in a run for the Warriors with a single in the bottom of the third inning.

Jonathan Keller started on the mound and went six innings. Keller allowed six runs, including three earned runs, on nine hits with six strikeouts and four walks.

Trent Harper took the loss after giving up one earned run on two hits with two strikeouts and a walk.
