Spain Park downs Clay-Chalkville in Metro soccer tournament

The Spain Park High School boys’ soccer team defeated Clay-Chalkville 5-0 in its opener in the Metro soccer tournament March 22.

Jacob Taggart led the Jaguars (8-3-1) with two goals in the victory. Taggart also finished with an assist.

Chris Wright, Jack O’Neil and Greg Yund scored one goal each.

Spain Park goalkeeper Brandon Mullis had the shutout with four saves during the match.

Scoring opened up in the fifth minute with Wright tucking a nice shot into the corner of the net. Just seven minutes later, O’Neil scored on a one-touch blast, giving the Clay-Chalkville keeper no chance of stopping the ball.

Spain Park led 2-0 at halftime.

Wright added his second goal of the night in the 11th minute of the second half on a scrum in front of the net.

Taggart finished off Clay-Chalkville with two goals at the end of the game.
