Chelsea downs Talladega

After two weeks on the road, the Chelsea High School baseball team returned home for a 12-2 victory over Talladega in an Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 5A, Area 7 contest March 25.

The Hornets’ offense picked up right where they left off on Tuesday in Talladega.

Chelsea jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and then pounded out nine runs in the third inning. Junior Joey Mock took control on the mound right away by sitting down nine straight batters, including five of them via strikeouts.

Talladega broke up the no-hitter in the fourth inning with a lead-off double. Talladega scored one run in the fourth inning and one run in the fifth inning.

Chelsea was led offensively by Austin Dean, who was making his first appearance in four weeks after breaking a bone in his hand in a game against Childersburg earlier in the season. Dean went 2-for-3 with a double and triple. Dean drove in two runs in the victory.

Second baseman Justen Moore finished 1-for-3 with a double and drove in two runs. Senior Carey Emmerke’s bat continued to stay hot after going 2-for-4. Jake Campbell went 1-for-3 with a double and drove in two runs.

Alex Dean went 1-for-2 and drove in a run.

Joey Mock pitched a five-inning complete game and gave up two unearned runs 2 runs on one hit with 11 strikeouts and a walk.
