Possibility of tornadoes, severe weather in county

County residents should keep an eye out for inclement weather March 26 until midnight, including a moderate risk of severe thunderstorms including tornadoes.

The National Weather Service released a hazardous weather outlook alert for most of central and north Alabama, including Shelby County.

According to the alert, “the severe threat, which also includes large hail and damaging winds, will last throughout the afternoon and until the midnight hour.”

Also, the alert said localized flash flooding may also become an issue north of Interstate 20.

“Severe thunderstorms will be possible again Sunday afternoon for areas along and south of Interstate 85,” the alert stated. “Threats will be large hail and damaging winds.”

Lastly, the alert said another storm system is expected to impact the county Tuesday afternoon and evening.
