Coosa Valley wins Prattville Christian tournament

The Coosa Valley Academy baseball team defeated Prattville Christian 9-4 to claim the school’s baseball tournament championship March 26 in a game that was suspended due to weather three weeks ago.

The Rebels (23-3) defeated Lakeside in the semifinals to reach the championship game.

Myles Varner, who drove in eight runs during the tournament, was named the tournament’s most valuable player. Varner finished with two hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs in the championship game.

Hunter Roe finished with a hit and drove in two runs. Hunter Winslett and Garrett McMillan each had a hit and drove in a run. Saxon Grimes finished with two hits. Cody Wood finished with a double. John Bullen and Stephen Cryer finished with one hit each.

Nick Bates earned the win on the mound after giving up one earned run on three hits with five strikeouts and three walks in a complete game.

The Rebels defeated Lakeside 8-0 in the semifinals.

Roe and Grimes led Coosa Valley at the plate with two hits and an RBI each.

Wood finished with one hit and drove in two runs. McMillan and Winslett had one hit each.

Winslett earned the win on the mound after giving up two hits with seven strikeouts in a complete game.
