Falcons compete at Lander Classic golf tournament

The University of Montevallo men’s golf team headed to Greenwood, S.C. for its final regular season golf tournament, where the Falcons finished 12th in a field of 17 teams in the Lander Bearcat Classic.

The tournament featured a field full of Peach Belt Conference teams as well as four nationally-ranked teams. The Falcons finished ahead of Peach Belt Conference foes Clayton State and North Georgia.

Montevallo was led by  junior Aaron Ebert and sophomore Austin Murphey, who tied for 24th overall in individual standings with a two-round score of 146, just two strokes over par.

Junior Gonzala Gambertoglio finished tied for 54th overall in individual standings with a score of 151. Senior Ruwaldt Viljoen finished tied for 79th overall in individual standings with a score of 156.

The final Montevallo golfer was sophomore Mariano Lepori, who scored 158 and finished tied for 84th overall in individual standings.

UNC Pembroke won the event with an overall team score of 574, which was two strokes under par.

The Falcons will now prepare for the Peach Belt Conference tournament, which will take place April 11-12 in Pooler, Ga. at the Savannah Quarters Country Club.
