Artists from Alabama and surrounding states will converge on Montevallo April 9.

The Montevallo Arts Council is sponsoring the fifth annual Montevallo Art Show in Orr Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Libbie Rodgers, president of the arts council, said the arts fest is the major event the arts council does each year. The arts fest includes the art show, but also promotes the musical event that occurs during the prior week. This year, the Montevallo Main Street Players are presenting, “Always…Patsy Cline” April 7-9 at 7:30 p.m. and April 10 at 2 p.m.

“At the art show itself, we have artists and their booths set up a long the walking trail (in Orr Park),” Rodgers said. “This year, we have 68 artists’ booths, which is more than we’ve ever had.”

Artists will travel from North Carolina, Huntsville, Atlanta and many from central Alabama. Rodgers said a lot of the artists are from the local area.

In addition to the artists selling their works, the show will also feature four different music groups from 10:30 a.m. until 3 p.m., including the Montevallo Community Band, Magic City Klezmer Band, Neo Jazz Collective and Giants and Toys.

The art show will have face painting for children, food vendors and booths supporting civic organizations. The Montevallo Sister City Commission is holding a booth encouraging donations for the Japanese relief fund.

“It’s a family-friendly event for sure,” Rodgers said. “We have a big crowd, and we have a lot of fun.”
