The Chelsea High School baseball team fell to Homewood 4-3 in extra innings in high school baseball action April 2.

Joey Mock Had another impressive outing for the Hornets after going 5 1/3 innings and giving up two runs on two hits with four strikeouts.

Jake Campbell pitched 2 2/3 innings, giving up one run on two hits with three strikeouts.

Reliever Tres Gregg took the loss on the mound when Homewood’s Ethan Lee scored on a walk-off single by Spencer Smith in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Chelsea was led offensively by Jake Campbell and Hunter Picklesimer.

Campbell went 2-for-4 and tied the game at 2-2 with a towering blast over the left-field wall in the top of the fourth inning.

Picklesimer went 3-for-3 with a double and two singles. Eli Bashour and Davis Shoemaker each had a hit for the Hornets.

Chelsea defeated Shades Valley 11-8 in the second game of the doubleheader at Homewood.

Both teams were firing on all cylinders offensively, as Shades Valley jumped out quickly in the top of the first inning by scoring two quick runs.

Chelsea answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Shades Valley scored four more in the second, one in the third and one in the fourth.

Carey Emmerke started on the mound for the Hornets and went 1 1/3 innings, giving up six runs on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Emmerke was replace by Brody Holder with one out in the second inning. Holder pitched the remainder of the second inning, giving up one run with two walks.

In the top of the third inning junior Alex Dean took over on the mound and pitched 1 1/3 innings, giving up one run on two hits with one walk. Sophomore Tripp Hobbs (5-2) took over with one out in the fourth inning and took the win on the mound after pitching 3 2/3 innings and giving up just two hits with two strikeouts.

Chelsea was led offensively by sophomore Davis Shoemaker, who finished 2-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and drove in one run. Junior Matthew Graben, who drove in one run and scored thee runs, was 2-for-5 with a double. Senior Jake Campbell went 1-for-4 with a double and drove in three runs.
