Calera tops Vincent in softball tournament

The Calera High School softball team defeated Vincent 7-4 in a softball tournament April 1-2 at Montevallo.
Morgan Tate led the Eagles at the plate as she finished 2-for-2 and drove in a run.
Jocelyn Davis went 1-for-2 at the plate with a home run and drove in two runs. Samantha Smith finished 1-for-2 at the plate with a double and drove in two runs. Kymber McGiboney finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Skyler Laird went 1-for-3 and scored a run. Katie Eiland finished 1-for-1 and scored a run. Brittany Files finished 1-for-2 and scored one run.
Shelby Clark scored one run.
Eiland gave up two earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts and a walk in four innings and earned the win in the circle.
Courtney Barber led Vincent at the plate as she finished 1-for-2 and scored a run. Barber took the loss in the circle after giving up seven earned runs on eight hits with five walks in three innings.
Calera fell to Maplesville 5-4 in the tournament.
Clark led the Eagles at the plate as she finished 2-for-3 and scored a run.
McGiboney went 2-for-3 and drove in one run. Davis finished 2-for-3 at the plate.
Laird, who drove in one run and scored one run, finished 1-for-3 at the plate. Smith went 1-for-3. Eiland finished 1-for-2 and scored a run. Lindsay Hammac scored one run.
Somer Robertson took the loss in the circle after giving up two earned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and a walk in 4 2/3 innings.
The Eagles fell to Jemison 7-5 in the tournament.
Clark finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Clark drove in one run and scored one run.
Files finished 2-for-2 and scored a run. McGiboney went 1-for-3 and drove in a run. Hammac, Davis and Amber Sherman scored one run each.
Robertson took the loss after giving up five earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and three walks in four innings.
