Hope Christian splits softball doubleheader with Evangel Family

The Hope Christian School softball team split a doubleheader with Evangel Family Christian Academy of Montgomery in high school softball action April 5.

The Eagles (7-4) edged Evangel Family 7-6 in the opener, which marked Hope Christian’s first ever win over their Alabama Christian Sports Conference rivals.

Ashley Vann led Hope Christian at the plate as she finished 3-for-4 with a double. Vann drove in one run and scored three runs in the victory.

Tiffany Skinner finished 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in two runs. Amanda Rowley went 1-for-3 with a double and scored three runs. Samantha Rowley finished 1-for-3 at the plate.

Sarah Birdsong scored one run. Glennleigh Boyd drove in one run.

Vann earned the win in the circle after allowing just one hit with 12 strikeouts and one walk in four innings in relief.

Lindy Walker started in the circle and gave up one earned run on two hits with a strikeout and three walks in two innings.

The Eagles fell to Evangel Family 15-4 in the nightcap.

Ashleigh Callahan led Hope Christian at the plate as she finished 2-for-3 with a double. Callahan drove in one run and scored one run.

Vann, who drove in one run and scored one run, finished 2-for-2 at the plate. Walker went 1-for-3 and drove in one run. Boyd and Hannah Rettig drove in one run each in the defeat. Layla Skinner drove in one run.

Skinner took the loss after allowing 13 earned runs on eight hits with a strikeout and four walks in 2 1/3 innings. Walker gave up two earned runs on one hit with two walks and a strikeout in 2/3 innings in relief.
