Falcons drop final tennis match

The University of Montevallo women’s tennis team ended its 2011 season April 9 with a 7-2 loss to Florida Southern College in Pensacola, Fla.
The Falcons two wins came in the No. 6 singles’ match and the No. 3 doubles’ match by forfeit as Florida Southern was unable to field a team of six players.
Freshman Yulia Shvetsova won the No. 6 singles’ match by default, while Shvetsova and sophomore Amy McGucken were awarded the No. 3 doubles’ match by default.
Junior Helene Nordgreen led the Falcons with two game wins.
Nordgreen fell 6-0, 6-2 to Agnese Rozite of Florida Southern in the No. 1 singles’ match.
Senior Calli Robinson, senior Kodi Bobo and McGucken were the only other Falcons to pick up game wins in singles’ matches.
Robinson fell to Sabine Goge of Florida Southern in the No. 2 singles’ match 6-0, 6-1. Bobo lost the No. 4 singles’ match 6-1, 6-0 and McGucken fell in the No. 5 singles’ match 6-1, 6-0.
Montevallo’s No. 1 doubles’ team fell 8-0, while the Falcons’ No. 2 doubles’ team fell 8-1.
The Falcons close out their second season in the Peach Belt Conference with an overall record of 4-19 and an 0-12 Peach Belt Conference record.
