Thompson downs rival Pelham in soccer match

The Thompson High School boys’ soccer team defeated rival Pelham 1-0 in overtime in a Class 6A, Section 6 match April 12 to claim the Border War title and bring home the trophy.

After a scoreless 80 minutes, Thompson forward Paul Karanja netted a goal with two seconds left in the first five-minute overtime period to clinch the victory.

Thompson goalkeeper Eric Hubbard recorded 13 saves in the shutout. Pelham goalkeeper Hunter Payant finished with 11 saves.

GIRLS

The Thompson High School girls’ soccer team defeated rival Pelham 10-0 in a Class 6A, Section 6 match April 12.

Alli Watts and Mariah Poe led the Warriors (16-4-1) with three goals each in the victory.

Amber Harless added two goals. Michaela Graber and Madison Thomas scored one goal each in the win.

Poe, Thomas, Hannah Parker and Mallory Bubbet finished with one assist each.

Thompson goalkeeper Kelsey Ferguson finished with one save in the shutout. Pelham goalkeeper Selina Delgadillo recorded two saves.
