Oak Mountain sweeps Gardendale in doubleheader

The Oak Mountain High School baseball team swept Gardendale in a high school baseball doubleheader April 16.

Jake Hubbard’s two-run homer led the Eagles’ attack as they prevailed over homestanding Gardendale 5-3 in the opening game of the doubleheader.

David Dahl’s first-inning double drove home J.D. Crowe, who later hit an RBI  double in the fourth inning. Crowe was then sent home on Vince Lubresky’s double.

Justin Hoyt went the distance on the mound and didn’t allow a hit until Gardendale designated hitter Josh Freeman lined a single in the bottom of the fifth inning. Hoyt finished with three strikeouts while allowing four hits and one walk.

In the nightcap, Oak Mountain starter David Tomlinson and closer Nick Bietighofer combined for a three-hit shutout in a 3-0 victory.

Robby Clements’ two-out double brought home Heath Quinn in the fourth inning. Barrett Gossett scored on a Crowe hit in the seventh inning. Crowe, who got to third on a wild pitch, then scored on a Lubresky hit.

Dahl was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, but was stranded on base both times. Crowe was also 2-for-4.
