Thompson edges Pelham in softball

The Thompson High School softball team edged rival Pelham 3-2 in a Class 6A, Area 10 contest April 16.

Marly Terrell led the Warriors (25-11) at the plate as she finished 2-for-4 with a home run and a double. Terrell drove in one run in the victory.

Rachel Rigney finished 2-for-3 with two doubles and scored one run. Jordan Swindle went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in one run. Taylor Powell, who drove in one run and scored one run, went 1-for-3 at the plate. Rebecca Victory finished 1-for-3 at the plate.

Rigney earned the win in the circle after giving up two earned runs on six hits with eight strikeouts and seven walks in a complete game.

Erin Whitman led Pelham at the plate as she finished 1-for-2 with a home run. Whitman drove in two runs in the defeat.

Heather McGuirk went 2-for-3 at the plate. Kristian Foster went 1-for-3 and scored one run. Jessie Breland and Emily Spain each finished 1-for-3 at the plate.

Spain took the loss in the circle after giving up three earned runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts in a complete game.
