FROM STAFF REPORTS

On April 30 from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m., the Thompson Middle School track team will conduct its second annual $1 garage sale in the TMS cafeteria. All items at the garage sale will be sold for $1. All proceeds will directly benefit the 120 middle school track athletes at Thompson.

“We held the event last year and found it to be a great fundraiser for our kids,” said Kevin Kahrig, a representative from the Booster Club. “One of the parents brought up the idea and it turned out to be a great event. We hope this year’s event will be even bigger and better.”

Last year more than 300 patrons visited the garage sale and purchased more than 1,500 items all priced at $1. The 2011 Booster Club has high hopes for this year’s sale. The Booster Club hopes to open the doors with more than 2,500 items ready to be sold for $1 each. Items for sale will include household goods, tools, clothing, toys, books and other miscellaneous items.

“It’s a win, win, win for everyone involved” said Ron Munday, Thompson Middle School track coach. “The Booster Club raises funds for the team, our parents can donate items they no longer want or need to a great cause, and our shoppers get great bargains at a time when every penny counts. Where else can you come with $20.00 and walk out with your arms full?”

“We are at a disadvantage because we do not have a regulation facility that would allow us to host track events and generate income,” said Kahrig. “The $1 sale is a great way for us to raise money for the program without turning our kids into salespeople.”

The TMS cafeteria is at 1509 Kent Dairy Road. Doors open at 8 a.m. All merchandise is first come, first serve.
