Shelby County under severe thunderstorm warning

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning in Shelby County in advance of a line of severe thunderstorms that may include “tornado-like wind speeds.”

The warning was issued at 9:52 a.m. and will expire at 10:30 a.m.

Locations included in the warning are Helena, Alabaster, Pelham, Montevallo, Calera, Chelsea, Columbiana and Wilsonville.

The NWS said the storms have a history of producing wind damage in Tuscaloosa County. The NWS encourages motorists in high-profile vehicles and residents in mobile homes to take shelter.
