The Westminster School at Oak Mountain boys’ tennis team qualified for the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 4A-1A state tournament following a runner-up finish at a section tournament April 21.

Westminster, which finished with 41 points, was represented in three singles’ championship matches and all three doubles’ title matches.

Adam Gurley of Westminster finished runner-up in the No. 2 singles’ bracket following a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Rakesh Goli of Altamont. The Knights’ Mark McClure claimed the No. 4 singles’ title following a 6-2, 6-2 win over Harry Arnold of Altamont in the championship match.

Wellsford Moore of Westminster fell to Dylan Fullilove of Altamont 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 6 singles’ championship match.

Adam Gurley and Richard Robey claimed the No. 1 doubles’ title following a 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 win over Goli and Holt Harvey of Altamont in the championship match. Mark McClure and Scott McClure of Westminster fell to Arnold and Mike Smoke of Altamont in the No. 2 doubles’ championship match.

Jake Doggett and Moore of Westminster fell to Fullilove and Leo Styslinger of Altamont in the No. 3 doubles’ title match.

Indian Springs finished third in the section tournament after racking up 25 points. Indian Springs was represented in two singles’ championship matches.

Jacob Thigpen of Indian Springs won the No. 1 singles’ title after defeating Mike Smoke of Altamont 6-0, 6-4 in the championship match. Jack Dillard of Indian Springs fell to Holt Harvey of Altamont 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 3 singles’ championship match.
