Calera downs rival Montevallo in softball

The Calera High School softball team defeated rival Montevallo 5-2 in high school softball action April 25.

The Eagles (7-13) scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning to clinch the victory.

“Our young team is hopefully peaking at the right time,” said Calera coach Robert McCrackin.

Jocelyn Davis led the Eagles at the as he finished 2-for-3 with a triple. Davis drove in three runs and scored one run.

Brittany Files finished 2-for-3 at the plate and scored two runs. Kymber McGiboney went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored one run.

Katie Eiland and Morgan Tate finished 1-for-3 each at the plate. Eiland scored one run. Tate and Anna Seabury drove in one run each.

Eiland earned the win in the circle after giving up two earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and a walk in a complete game.

Savannah Upton led Montevallo at the plate as she finished 2-for-2 and scored one run.

Mallory Anderson finished 1-for-3 at the plate with a double and scored one run. Chelsey Wilson finished 1-for-3 and drove in one run. Savanna Smith finished 1-for-3 at the plate. Kaley Kornegay went 1-for-2 at the plate. Madison Fancher finished 1-for-3 at the plate.

Destiny Upton took the loss in the circle after giving up five earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts in a complete game.
