Calera falls to Holt in playoff series

The Calera High School baseball team was knocked out of the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 4A playoffs following a 7-6 loss to Holt in the deciding third game in a best-of-three series in the opening round of the Class 4A playoffs.

Calera (9-14) scored three runs in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to one run, but couldn’t push across the game-tying run.

Coby Mize drove in the first run for Calera with his RBI single in the first inning.

Calera added two runs in the fifth inning when Jordan Sizemore belted an RBI triple and a sacrifice fly by Mize plated Sizemore.

The Eagles’ final three runs came in the sixth inning when Jeremy Hyde blasted a two-run home run, which also scored Sizemore. Chase Jones drove in the final run with his RBI double.
