University of Montevallo junior first baseman Heath Peterson and senior pitcher Kyle Butler were recently named the Peach Belt Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

Peterson and Butler led the Falcons to a series victory over the University of South Carolina in Aiken this past weekend in the Falcons’ final Peach Belt Conference series of the season.

This is the second Player of the Week award for Peterson and first Pitcher of the Week award for Butler.

Peterson hit .556 in four games with three doubles, a triple, a homer and five RBIs. The junior scored eight runs and had multiple hits in all four games. He began with a 3-for-4 effort with a home run against UAH, then hit .500 (7-for-14) in a three game series at USC Aiken. He had two doubles in the series opener, then a double and triple in game two. He finished with a 2-for-5 game in the finale as UM took the series with an RBI and two runs scored. Currently on a nine-game hitting streak, Peterson is among the league leaders in RBIs, runs and doubles.

In his final career PBC game, Butler hurled a complete-game eight hitter as UM beat USC Aiken 9-1. The one run scored was unearned and he struck out nine to improve to 5-4 on the year with his second complete game. He got out of a bases loaded jam in the third and stranded 10 Pacer base runners in all. Only one of the eight hits allowed was for extra bases. Leads the team in ERA and opponent batting average and has issued only 14 walks in 68 innings pitched.
