Lions advance in playoffs following win over Hueytown

The Briarwood Christian School baseball team is headed to the third round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 5A playoffs following an 8-4 win over Hueytown in the deciding third game of a best-of-three series in the second round May 4.

Briarwood Christian will host Russell County in the quarterfinal round of the AHSAA Class 5A playoffs.

Harrison Foster led the Lions (19-10) at the plate as he finished with a two-run homer in the victory. Foster also drove in Logan Crook to give Briarwood Christian a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning with his RBI single.

The Lions clinched the win with five runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Crook drove in two runs in the inning with a two-run double. Crook finished 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles in the victory. Micah Hooper also had an RBI double in the inning.

Matthew Furuto, Daniel Robert and Ben Craft finished with one hit each.

Hooper started on the mound and gave up two earned runs on four hits with a walk in 1 1/3 innings. Barnes Bankston earned the win after giving up just two hits with three strikeouts and a walk in 2 2/3 innings in relief.
