National Weather Service meteorologists confirmed an F-1 tornado landed in northern Shelby County on the morning of April 27. The tornado touched down west of the intersection of Valleydale Road and Caldwell Mill Road, according to a press release from the National Weather Service.

While the tornado caused no known injuries or fatalities, its estimated peak winds were up to 100 miles per hour, the press release said.

“It moved north-northwestward across a largely residential area and snapped numerous trees,” the press release stated. “The trees subsequently fell onto power lines, homes, apartment buildings and several vehicles. The heaviest damage was along and just east of Caldwell Mill Road near the Cahaba River. The tornado lifted after snapping off a few tree branches on Cahaba River Road.”
