Calera splits games in area tournament

The Calera High School softball team split its final two games in the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 4A, Area 8 tournament May 6.

The Eagles (10-16) defeated Tarrant 13-2 in their first game before falling to Oak Grove 9-2 in the championship game.

Morgan Tate led Calera at the plate as she finished 3-for-3 and drove in one run in the loss to Oak Grove.

Shelby Clark, Skyler Laird, Brittany Files, Anna Seabury and Samantha Smith added one hit each in the defeat. Files and Seabury scored one run each. Smith drove in one run.

Katie Eiland took the loss after giving up six earned runs on 11 hits with a strikeout and three walks in six innings.

Kymber McGiboney led Calera at the plate as she finished 3-for-4 with a double in the win over Tarrant. McGiboney drove in two runs and scored three runs in the victory.

Clark finished 3-for-4 at the plate and scored three runs. Jocelyn Davis, who drove in two runs and scored two runs, went 2-for-4 at the plate. Tate finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Laird, Eiland, Files and Seabury finished with one hit each.

Somer Roberson earned the win after giving up one earned run on three hits with four strikeouts and six walks in five innings.
