Evangel Christian wins three games in final weekend

The Evangel Christian School baseball team took three of its five games in the final weekend of the 2011 season.

The Lightning (28-9) defeated First Assembly Christian 14-5 in a game May 6.

Ben Albright led Evangel Christian as he finished 2-for-2 at the plate. Albright drove in one run and scored three runs.

Brandon Mackey finished 2-for-2 at the plate and scored two runs. Peter Lau, who drove in two runs and scored two runs, went 1-for-2 at the plate. Hayden Brown, who finished 1-for-2 at the plate, drove in a run and scored a run.

Andrew Thompson finished 1-for-3 at the plate and scored a run. Daniel Ellis drove in a run and scored two runs. Zac Shackelford scored two runs. Thomas Milstead scored one run.

Mackey earned the win after giving up two earned runs on three hits with five strikeouts and a walk in four innings.

The Lightning defeated Cathedral Academy 13-3 on May 6.

Albright again led Evangel Christian at the plate as he went 3-for-3 and scored two runs.

Roecker Melick, who drove in one run and scored two runs, finished 2-for-2 with a double. Peter Lau finished 2-for-2 at the plate and drove in three runs. Mackey finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and scored a run.

Brentley Wells finished 1-for-2 at the plate and scored a run. Brown, who drove in two runs and scored a run, went 1-for-2 at the plate with a double. Colin Myers went 1-for-2 at the plate and scored a run. Milstead finished 1-for-1 at the plate with a triple and scored three runs.

Clay O’Neal finished 1-for-1 at the plate with a double and drove in one run. Josh Letson also drove in a run.

Albright earned the win after giving up one earned run on two hits with three strikeouts in two innings.

Evangel Christian defeated New Life Christian 13-6 on May 7.

Lau led the Lightning as he finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Lau drove in four runs and scored three runs in the victory.

Brown, who drove in two runs and scored two runs, went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double. Nate Scott, who drove in two runs and scored one run, finished 2-for-4 at the plate.

Mackey finished 2-for-5 at the plate with a double and scored two runs. Albright finished 2-for-3 at the plate and scored two runs. Milstead who drove in two runs and scored three runs, went 1-for-2 at the plate with a double.

Albright earned the win on the mound after giving up three earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts and a walk in three innings. Milstead picked up the save after giving up just one hit with six strikeouts and two walks in four innings.

Hope Christian fell to New Life Christian 8-4 and dropped a game with the Tuscaloosa Home Educators 12-7 during the weekend.
