Lawrence E. Herron, age 96, a resident of Westover, died on Saturday, May 7, 2011. Mr. Herron was born on May 16, 1914, and would have soon celebrated his 97th birthday. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at Bolton Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Ledbetter officiating. There will be a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. at Freewill Memorial Cemetery in West Jefferson. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at Bolton Funeral Home.

Mr. Herron proudly served his country in the Army during WWII.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Oneda Herron, and sons, Morgan and Milton. He is survived by his sons, Alvin Herron (Ann), Edwin Herron (Dorothy) and Jerome Herron (Sandi); 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister, Bernice Sanders; and numerous other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
