COLUMBIANA — A Birmingham man faces a variety of charges after fleeing from police.

Torey Santos Tubbs, 27, of Birmingham was taken into custody on Wednesday by a Vincent Police officer after crashing his vehicle at the intersection of U.S. 231 and Shelby County 85 and attempting to flee on foot.

On Wednesday at about 2 p.m., a Shelby County 911 dispatcher received a call from a resident, who lives in the 500 block of Glaze Ferry Way in eastern Shelby County near Harpersville. The resident said, upon returning home, they witnessed a suspicious person exiting their house carrying their possessions.

A Shelby County Sheriff’s Office press release reported the homeowner said the suspicious person got into a vehicle and pointed a weapon at them as he drove away.

Harpersville and Vincent police officers responded to the call as a burglary in progress. Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies and Alabama State Troopers also responded and a deputy spotted the suspect and attempted to stop him.

The suspect allegedly refused to stop and a pursuit ensued with all agencies involved, which ended when Tubbs crashed his vehicle.

After Tubbs’ capture, Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies at the scene of the accident and scene of the burglary, discovered evidence that connected Tubbs to another burglary in the 220 block of Creswell Road, as well, the press release reported.

Investigators are working with the Jackson’s Gap Police Department to determine if other evidence recovered is related to a burglary in their jurisdiction.

Tubbs was transported to the Shelby County Jail, where he is being held on charges of one count first degree burglary, one count third degree burglary, one count theft of property first degree and one count attempting to elude law enforcement. His bond was set at a total of $310,500 for all charged.

The Sheriff’s press release said additional drug-related charges may be filed, as well.
