FROM STAFF REPORTS

An Alabaster organization aimed at helping those with disabilities lead independent lives will be giving its supporters a chance to enjoy live jazz and wine at Morgan Creek Farms in Harpersville.

The event, titled “Jazz in the Vineyard,” will be held on May 21 from 5:30-10 p.m. at the vineyards, which are off U.S. 280. The event is sponsored by Independent Living Resources and will feature dinner, wine tasting, music and fireworks.

Tickets to the event are $30 per person and $50 per couple, and all proceeds will help ILR to build a new Independent Living Resources Center in downtown Birmingham, which will include a disability rights museum.

The event will also include a silent auction featuring a football signed by University of Alabama football coach Nick Saban and his coaching staff.

To learn more about the event, or to purchase tickets, call IL Resources Peer Advocate Brian Burrows at 685-0570 or email brianburrows@bellsouth.net.
