FROM STAFF REPORTS

University of Montevallo senior Emily Gibson, a member of the Falcons’ women’s golf team, was recently named to the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic team.

Only five female golfers in the Peach Belt Conference met the requirements for the award. Gibson was joined by Katja Dammann of UNC-Pembroke, Samantha Hamilton of Columbus State and Kim Knox and Kelly Pearce of Armstrong Atlantic State as the only female golfers on the All-Academic team.

Gibson holds a 3.44 grade point average in sociology at Montevallo. She is a two-time member of the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic team.

The team is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of Peach Belt Conference student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must participate in at least half of his/her team’s events and be either a starter or significant contributor; have achieved a 3.20 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale and completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution.

The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
