Shelby County sweeps all-star games

A team made up high school baseball standouts from Shelby County swept rival teams from Chilton County and Autauga County in the Chilton County Lions Club East-West all-star baseball doubleheader May 21 in Clanton.

Shelby County beat Chilton County 6-5 and topped Autauga County 5-3.

Shelby County High School senior Evan McNeal was named the tournament’s most valuable player.

McNeal pitched 2 2/3 innings in the doubleheader and allowed only two runs. McNeal also finished with a home run and a double at the plate.

Chase Jones of Calera drove in the go-ahead run in Shelby County’s 6-5 win over Chilton County.

Jeremy Hyde of Calera finished 4-for-5 at the plate in the doubleheader. Nathan Smith finished 2-for-5 in the series.

Montevallo High School senior Patrick Baugh finished with one hit at the plate and pitched three no-hit innings with four strikeouts in the series.

Montevallo junior Taylor Burr finished 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI double. Burr also scored a  run and had a stolen base. Montevallo junior Eric Smith finished with one hit at the plate and had a stolen base.
