Loyce C. Meeks, age 86, of Alabaster passed away Friday evening, May 20, 2011. The funeral was at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 23, 2011, in the chapel of Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, and burial followed in Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.

Mr. Meeks was born May 1, 1925, in Tupelo, Miss. He retired from Flav-O-Rich Dairy, and was a World War II Veteran who served in the Italian Campaign with the 88th Army Infantry Division and received the Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars. He enjoyed fishing and various activities in his workshop. Mr. Meeks was preceded in passing by his parents, Oscar and Zola Meeks; sister, Jeanette Bishop; twin sister, Floyce Bozeman; and great-grandson, Daniel. Survivors include Mr. Meeks’ wife of 65 years, Edna Meeks; son, Dan Meeks (Beverly); sister, Louise Naish; grandsons and families, Forrest Meeks (Jamie), Mary Katherine, Emily and Allison, Josh Meeks (Sandi) and Leah and Tanner Meeks (Mary Beth) and Darby; and a number of nieces and nephews.
