April 27, 2011, became a sad, historical day for the state of Alabama. What would you do if such devastation and loss happened to you?

Our Columbiana community was untouched by the raging storms and spared from tragedy. Everyone at Pa Paw’s restaurant — patrons, employees and owners — wanted to assist and aid the people who have lost so much. In response, we solicited the help of civic leaders to raise money for the relief effort.

On Wednesday, May 18, Shelby County Sheriff Chris Curry’s office and State Rep. Mike Hill volunteered their lunch hours to collect money for the relief effort, which resulted in raising $2,236.

On Thursday, May 26, civic leaders in the city of Columbiana donated their time and lunch hours to assist in another fundraiser, which resulted in raising $1,589.40.

My wife, Nancy, and I, owners of Pa Paw’s, greatly appreciate all who helped. The generous donations of Columbiana and Shelby County during the two fundraisers were amazing.

All donations collected and money raised was given to the Shelby Baptist Association, which will distribute the funds.

We had so many generous donors and contributors, the largest of which, $300, came from Edwards Chevrolet. Thank you to all who gave even the slightest amount to our endeavor to assist those in need. Your generosity is deeply appreciated, and we are most grateful.
