Twelve baseball standouts participate in ABCA Showcase

Twelve high school baseball standouts from Shelby County participated in the 2011 Alabama Baseball Coaches Association Showcase June 24-26 at Troy University.

Eleven of the players from Shelby County played for the Orange team in the Showcase, which featured rising juniors and seniors across the state.

The Orange team included Thompson rising senior outfielder Austin Carter, Oak Mountain rising senior outfielder Josh Floyd, Briarwood Christian rising senior second baseman Matthew Furuto, Thompson rising senior infielder Tyler Gamble, Pelham rising junior outfielder Fletcher Johnson, Pelham rising junior pitcher/outfielder Thomas Lowery, Pelham rising senior pitcher Tyler Millsap, Thompson rising senior pitcher/first baseman Kenny Nabors, Oak Mountain rising junior outfielder/pitcher Heath Quinn, Pelham rising senior pitcher/third baseman Hunter Soleymani and Thompson rising senior catcher Garrett Walters.

The Showcase included eight teams, which faced off in one game each day in a round-robin format. College coaches and professional scouts were in attendance to recruit and evaluate the state’s top players.
