Montevallo volleyball to host 10 matches in 2011

The University of Montevallo volleyball team will host 10 home matches during the 2011 season, according to the schedule released by the school July 1.

The Falcons will be on the road for 20 contests this fall.

Montevallo opens the 2011 season at the Christian Brothers University tournament in Memphis, Tenn.

The Falcons will play four matches over two days on Sept. 2-3. Montevallo will open up against host Christian Brothers before taking on the University of West Georgia, Ouachita Baptist University and Henderson State University.

Montevallo’s first home match takes place Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 6 p.m. as the Falcons host the University of West Georgia.

The Falcons’ first Peach Belt Conference match will be at home against Augusta State University on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. The conference opener will be part of a tri-match in which the Falcons take on Augusta State, Augusta State meets the University of Alabama in Huntsville and Montevallo concludes the action with a match against UAH.

The Falcons final home match will be Saturday, Oct. 15 at 11 a.m. as they host Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference contest.

The Falcons own a 193-83 all-time record against their 2011 opponents. Montevallo has played every team on its schedule at least once in program history, including West Georgia, a former Gulf South Conference rival the Falcons have played 51 times over the past 35 years.

Montevallo is coming off a season in which the Falcons finished second in the Peach Belt Conference standings and won its first NCAA tournament match in program history.
