Selvie McGuire Harwell

Harpersville

Selvie McGuire Harwell, 81, passed away July 7, 2011, in Vincent. Visitation will be July 9 from 5-8 p.m. at Harpersville First Baptist Church. The funeral service will be July 10 at 2 p.m. at Harpersville First Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Mims and Rev. David Williams and Randy Spates officiating. Burial will follow in the Arkwright Cemetery.

Mrs. Harwell was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Harwell, and brother, Elvin McGuire. She was survived by her son, Robert “Flop” Harwell (Gwen) of Sylacauga; daughter, Rebecca Greene (Terry) of Vincent; brother, William Harwell (Julia) of Trussville; sisters-in-law, Macel Snider of Williston, Fla., Louise Snyder of Childersburg and Agnes Harwell of Tuscaloosa; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and special friends Sugar Abbott and David Ricafrenta.

Selvie was a great mother and granny. She always made sure you had plenty to eat. Even after she lost her memory, she still wanted to cook for you. She liked her family trips, but loved when we got back home. She leaves a family behind that will miss her. She was known for her comment when asked how she was as “mean as ever,” but she was anything but mean. She was an angel. A special thanks to Amedisys Hospice staff, Bro. Ken, Amy, Donna and Becky.

Pallbearers will be Robert Harwell, Rodney Greene, Bobby Greene, Glendon Harwell, David Brazier, Matt Wright, Daniel Gill and Chris Norris.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home, Childersburg Chapel, will direct the services. Online condolences at Curtisandsonfh.com.
