Special election set to fill Canfield’s vacated House seat

Gov. Robert Bentley on Monday called for a special election to fill the vacant seat of State House of Representatives 48, which is being vacated by Rep. Greg Canfield.

Bentley last week appointed Canfield to serve as director of the Alabama Development Office.

The special primary election will be Tuesday, August 30. If a runoff is necessary, it will be held on October 11, with a general election date set for Tuesday, November 29. If no runoff election is necessary, the special general election will be held October 11.

Candidates have until 5 p.m. on Friday, July 15 to qualify with their respective political parties for the election.
