The United States Postal Service likely will decide the fate of the Saginaw Post Office soon after the decision goes before the service’s regional office in late July, according to a USPS spokeswoman.

In late April, USPS representatives held a town meeting with Saginaw residents to discuss possibly consolidating the Saginaw office off U.S. 31 with the Alabaster office near the intersection of Alabama 119 and Kent Dairy Road.

The meeting drew about 50 residents, many of whom said they would oppose the Saginaw office’s closing.

Since the meeting, the USPS has been advertising the proposal at the Saginaw office, said USPS spokeswoman Debbie Fetterly.

“The proposal is still pending, and is posted at the Saginaw office now. It will be taken down on the 28th of July,” she said. “After that, it will go to our southwest area office for final approval.”

Fetterly said the Postal Service will release more information after the final decision is made.
