Former Spain Park High School boys’ golf standout Trey Del Greco fired a final round of 1-under par 71 on July 31 to win the Alabama Open at the Ol’ Colony Golf Complex course in Tuscaloosa.

Del Greco, who will be a junior on the Vanderbilt University men’s golf team this fall, recorded rounds of 69, 70 and 71 on the 7,000 yard course to claim the championship.

Second round leader Ron Stromeyer, a Pelham native, bogeyed the first hole to allow Del Greco, the son of former National Football League star and Spain Park boys’ golf coach Al Del Greco, to move into a tie for the lead. Del Greco birdied the second hole to grab the lead and played steady golf the rest of the day.

Stromeyer, a PGA Professional from Dick’s Sporting Goods in Hoover, was unable to mount a challenge and eventually finished with a 76 for a third-place finish.

The Alabama Open field is comprised of PGA Golf Professionals from the Dixie Section PGA and amateurs golfers from Alabama.
