Chelsea golfer finishes tied for second at AJGA Junior tournament

Chelsea High School senior Tyler Shope carded a 2-over par 185 in the two-round American Junior Golf Association Junior tournament Aug. 3-4 on the Valley Course at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley to finish in a three-way tie for second place at the event.

Shope, a Wilsonville resident, carded a 74 in the opening round and fired a 70 in the second round of the tournament. Shope, who carded a 37 on the final nine holes, finished in a three-way tie with Will Cannon of Hoover and Hunter Arnold of Lenoir City, Tenn.

Robby Prater, a senior at Spain Park High School, finished in a two-way tie for sixth in the tournament after carding a 3-over par 186.

Prater had a 74 in the opening round and a 73 in the second round before firing a 39 on the final nine holes in the tournament.

Briarwood Christian School sophomore Connor Smith finished in a two-way tie for 12th overall in individual standings with his 7-over par 190.

Smith fired a 74 in each of his first two rounds before closing out the tournament with a 42 on the final nine holes.

Briarwood Christian teammate Trevor Page, a junior, came in 23rd overall in individual standings with his 10-over par 193.

Page finished with a 75 in the first round and a 77 in the second round. Page carded a 41 on the final nine holes.
