The University of Alabama club hockey team lost another team member Aug. 4 when 19-year-old David Mosier, a Piscataway, N.J. native, died in his sleep.

Mosier’s death marks the third death of a team member in the past four years for the Frozen Tide, who play their home games at the Pelham Civic Complex.

Former Frozen Tide team member Brent Ullom passed away in 2007 after a cancerous tumor was discovered in his foot. Former Alabama club hockey team member Steve Fillo died in a car accident Aug. 30, 2009.

Mosier was a sophomore at the University of Alabama, where he had been on the Dean’s list his freshman year. Mosier was selected to the 2011 Southeastern Conference hockey tournament’s All Tournament team following his freshman season.

Mosier scored a goal in the inaugural Iron Cup, an ice hockey series between Iron Bowl rivals Alabama and Auburn, in Pelham in January.

Mosier graduated from Seton Hall Preparatory School in May 2010. While at Seton Hall Prep, Mosier was on the varsity ice hockey team and played on the baseball team his freshman and sophomore years.

Mosier was the son of David and Mary Ellen, the brother of Katie and Erin and the grandson of Margaret Mosier.

The viewing was held Sunday, Aug. 7 at Piscataway Funeral Home in Piscataway, N.J. A funeral mass was held Monday, Aug. 8 at Our Lady of Fatima in Piscataway, N.J. Interment will be at Resurrection Burial Park in Piscataway, N.J.

The Alabama club hockey team chartered a bus to attend Mosier’s funeral in New Jersey.
