While most school-age children in Shelby County will head back to the classroom on Thursday, those enrolled in Hoover City Schools won’t start until Monday.

Four Hoover City School are located in Shelby County: Spain Park High, Berry Middle, Riverchase Elementary and Greystone Elementary, said Jason Gaston, a spokesman for the school system.

Gaston said the faculty and staff are excited to start the new school year.

“There have been a lot of changes this summer,” he said. “I think everybody is ready for Monday.”

Gaston said the calendar for the school year is usually planned the previous winter.

Hours for the elementary schools are from 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., while the middle schools run from 8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Spain Park High School’s hours are from 9:25 a.m. to 3:35 p.m.

Gaston said parents and students who have questions about the calendar should visit the school system’s website at Hoover.k12.al.us.
