Kingwood Christian School volleyball coach John Jones came away impressed with both his squad and his opponent in a win over Cornerstone Christian School on the opening night of the season Aug. 18.

The Lions defeated the Chargers 25-12, 25-17, 25-10 in their opening match, but Jones expects big things from Cornerstone Christian in the future.

“They’ve got a couple of girls that will be pretty good,” Jones said.

Casey Whitmer led Kingwood Christian (1-0) with four kills, two blocks and 10 service aces in its opening match.

Karley Chamblee added six service aces and a team-high 10 assists in the victory.

Jones said he was able to let his younger players get some court time in the season-opening match.

“I played everybody I could,” Jones said.
