Verizon to collect used phones during Hoover event Aug. 20

While men strut in stilettos to raise money for Safehouse of Shelby County Aug. 20, Verizon Wireless will collect used phones to give to victims of domestic violence.

Verizon Wireless will collect phones for its HopeLine program during the Walk a Mile In Her Shoes event at Veterans Park on Valleydale Road in Hoover.

Verizon is asking for any used cell phones and accessories. The phones will be recycled and given to victims of domestic violence. Verizon also gives cash grants to non-profit organizations as part of the HopeLine program.

Registration for the event begins at 8 a.m. The walk begins at 9 a.m.
