Oak Mountain falls in tournament semifinals

The Oak Mountain High School volleyball team opened the season with a run to the semifinals in the Juanita Boddie tournament Aug. 20 at Hewitt-Trussville High School.

The Eagles fell to McGill-Toolen 13-25, 21-25 in the Gold Division tournament bracket semifinals.

After dropping their opening match of the tournament to Huntsville 18-25, 21-25, the Eagles responded with back-to-back wins to reach the tournament semifinals.

Oak Mountain (2-2) defeated Hartselle 28-26, 25-23 before topping Grissom 24-26, 26-24, 25-19 in the tournament.

Senior Abbie Bourque led the Eagles with 17 kills and 14 blocks in the tournament.

Junior Emily Cosgrove finished with 10 kills, 11 blocks and seven assists. Senior Ashton Slawinski recorded 12 blocks.

Sophomore Hannah Beach registered eight kills and a team-high 29 assists. Junior Rosemary Wendel finished with 20 assists.
