Eagles finish in top six at opening race

The Oak Mountain High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams posted the highest finishes among Shelby County teams at the season-opening 5K race Aug. 27 at Heardmont Park.

The Oak Mountain boys’ team finished sixth in the boys’ standings, while the Oak Mountain girls’ team came in fourth in the girls’ standings.

Will Hamaker, who posted a time of 17:57.49, led the Eagles with his 13th place finish in the boys’ individual standings. Tanner Syx of Oak Mountain finished 25th in individual standings with his time of 18:42.08. Caleb Mintz of Oak Mountain came in 30th overall in the boys’ individual standings with his time of 18:58.02.

Hewitt-Trussville won the boys’ 5K race.

Thompson finished seventh in the boys’ standings. The Warriors’ Michael Johnson led all Thompson runners after finished 16th in individual standings with his time of 18:00.32.

Westminster School at Oak Mountain finished 11th in the boys’ standings. Adam Dunkerley led the Knights as he finished 39th in individual standings with his time of 19:25.57.

Briarwood Christian finished 16th in the boys’ team standings.

Bob Jones won the girls’ 5K race.

Haley Davidson, who completed the 5K race in 21:00.17, led Oak Mountain in individual standings with her third-place finish. Emily Stevens of Oak Mountain came in 25th overall with her time of 23:06.15. The Eagles’ Lydia Brock finished 28th in individual standings with her time of 23:21.86.

Thompson came in eighth in the girls’ team standings. Michaela Graber led the Warriors as she finished 27th overall in individual standings with her time of 23:18.12.

Briarwood Christian finished 12th in the girls’ team standings.
