Lions fall at Prattville Christian

The Kingwood Christian School football team fell on the road at Prattville Christian 45-13 in its Alabama Independent Schools Association Class 3A, Region 2 opener Aug. 26.

The Lions (1-1 overall, 0-1 in AISA Class 3A, Region 2) trailed 26-6 at halftime.

Sophomore quarterback Gavin Sumrall put the Lions on the scoreboard with his 29-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

Sumrall capped the scoring for the Lions with his 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Senior placekicker Luke Edge added the extra point.

Sumrall completed 20-of-34 passes for 161 yards with an interception in the defeat. Sumrall also rushed for 67 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries.

Sophomore receiver Montez Haynes led the Lions with four receptions for 62 yards. Junior Dalton Sparks caught four passes for 46 yards. Justin Pinkerton finished with four receptions for 43 yards.

Senior Charles Robinson rushed for 27 yards on six carries. Sparks finished with 26 yards on nine carries.

The Lions will travel to defending AISA Class 1A champion Coosa Valley Academy in their next game Sept. 2.
