CHELSEA – Members of the King’s Home staff and girls from Hannah Homes worked to make stacks of pancakes for the pancake breakfast fundraiser in Chelsea’s Winn Dixie parking lot on Aug. 27.

Lew Burdette, King’s Home president, said the breakfast was to raise funds to offset a bigger event, Kampfire for the King, set for the first weekend in December.

“Our young leaders council, which is like our junior board, sponsors Kampfire for the King,” Burdette said. “It’s a big, outdoor festival with concerts and speakers.”

Kampfire for the King will take place on King’s Home’s 100-acre main campus and will feature hayrides, Santa, a live nativity, dramas, a fishing rodeo and much more. Professional Bass Wrangler Randy Howell will lead the fishing rodeo, as he’s a spokesman for King’s Home.

Burdette said the event will also have a Guiness World Record-sanctioned event featuring Ted Batchelor, a man who holds nine world records of setting himself on fire. He’ll be trying for the world’s longest run while on fire, Burdette said.

A brand new bass boat will be raffled off at the December event, and raffle tickets are $100 apiece, Burdette said, gesturing to the boat that was present at the pancake breakfast.

King’s Home is made of 18 homes where families live together, along four homes for girls and five for boys in King’s Ranch. Ninety-three percent of the residents have been abused, Burdette said.
